12. From the desk of the Teacher-in-charge Sanjit Debnath The college is established in 2014 with a vision that empower the surroundings area which lacked the tough of higher education. To spread the rays of higher education in this locality this college has come into its existence. Earlier after the Higher Secondary Examination most of the poor boys and girls were not able to promote their higher education in the distant colleges due to poverty and lack of communication links. Many of these meritorious students used to pass idle time at home. They could not avail any proper guide, teaching or coach to enhance their knowledge to face modern day competitions. As there is no institution for higher education in this block, this college aims to bring prosperity by offering light of education and moral values for excellence in this area to the future youths at the undergraduate level. Though the college faces different forms of obstacles like financial crunch, the college is still marching ahead to empower the rural youth with breadth of knowledge to established themselves to their career and also for the society. One NSS unit has been sanctioned in this college. The college has a well-furnished library with reading room, sports good and equipment for general and Physical Education students, well equipped Geography Laboratory. One smart class room has been constructed with LCD projector. Guardians meeting with the departmental teachers and students hold regularly. Class tests are conducted regularly. Teachers are sincere and dedicated to the students. They keep a regular watch to the students. This reflected in students' performances and the result of the University Examination is very satisfactory. The students’ attendance is very punctual and they participate in the Inter college sports, cultural competition. Ultimately this college provides an opportunity for qualitative education, to develop personality and ideal citizen, to enhance creative skill and inculcate ethical and moral values among the students. I believe the college authority, the teachers, non-teaching staff, the students and their guardians along with the local people endeavour best to create an atmosphere in this institution to make it a great place of learning and existence.

3. INTRODUCTION Swarnamoyee Jogendranath Mahavidyalaya, a Govt. Aided General Degree College, was established in 2014 with the approval of Higher Education Department, Govt. of West Bengal. The institution was officially inaugurated on 30 t h January, 2015 after receiving affiliation from Vidyasagar University, West Bengal. This newly established college has successfully passed through two year’s experience of imparting education in this rural based locality where the ray of higher education had seldom reached before. The “Bhowmik Family” of Amdabad was instrumental in founding this institute through their generous sacrifice, nobility and all-out devotion to achieve this goal. Especially it is gloriously mentioned that Dr. Anindya Kisor Bhaumik, retired principal, son of Swarnamoyee and Jogendranath Bhowmik pioneered the activities of establishing this college in revered memory of his parents in constant cooperation of his elder brothers and sisters. Among those notable contributors are the eldest son of Swarnamoyee and Jogendranath, Mr. Amulyaratan Bhowmik, a former headmaster, social worker and freedom fighter, the second son Dr. Prabodh Kumar Bhowmik, the former head of the Department of Anthropology, University of Calcutta, the third son Subodh Kumar Bhowmik, retired headmaster, the second daughter Smt. Renuka Jana, a retired headmistress and their sons and daughters. In addition to the invaluable donations, bounties and multiple assistances from neighbouring nobilities are highly appreciated. It is worthy to mention that Late Jogendranath, a great educationist, an immensely broad-hearted man, a social worker of great repute, led the way to spread education in backward rural areas through establishing as many as fourteen schools including the well-known Amdabad High School originated during the 'British Rules'. To commemorate his memory and of his wife Swarnamoyee, an ideal woman, a kind-hearted affectionate mother, who was the source of inspirations to all such benevolent activities, this college has been set up with also a special view to enlighten this rural territory which has otherwise fallen back far behind in the race of today's' progress and advancement of learning. LOCATION The site of the college has a charming view in the background of luxuriant landscape of nature. While the college is currently functional in its temporary building, a sanctioned magnificent building with artistic views will very soon be erected beside a metalled road which has passed through green crop fields, the premises of neighbouring people, the enchanting views of nature and a serene, quiet, peaceful environment. Far away from the chaos, noises and bustles of “madden city” the surroundings of the college resemble “SHANTINIKETAN”. The college has a good network of conveyance in its vicinity and convenient communications with the outer world including important links to Haria-Contai-Digha, Chandipur-Tamluk-Kolkata and Haldia. VISION AND MISSION Our vision is to impart quality higher education to the students mostly hailing from distressed families and down-trodden classes of people residing in rural Bengal. Our innate desire is to help growing the students of the locality as a responsible citizen of future India and to empower them upgraded and competent enough to cope with the challenging modern trade of academic and practical life and to equip with the job-oriented education. Our mission is to encourage the students in general to manifest their latent talents and ideas; and inculcate the
